Attraction Name: Great Brak River Museum
CATEGORY:: Cultural Attractions
Type: Museum
Description of Attraction: This Museum occupies an old school house that was built in 1902. It explores the history of the village of Great Brak River (which was founded on the arrival of the Searle family in 1859). It houses a small collection of artefacts from the indigenous Khoe and San people, and contains a large and important collection of local photographs dating back to the early days of photography (which was introduced in 1839).

The Great Brak River Museum recently opened its Human Origins exhibition that explores the story of mankind from the beginnings of modern human behaviour in the Mossel Bay area 162,000 years ago, to the recent past. This exhibit places special emphasis on the relationship between the local community and the human story.

The Museum also houses the Great Brak River Tourism Information Office.
