Business name: Perdespruit Marshland
CATEGORY:: Activities
Type: Bird Watching
About (Owner’s description): Perde Spruit is a natural waterway linking Sedgefield Lagoon with Swartvlei Lake. It enters the Lagoon about 30 metres below the low-water bridge at The Island. It is an important nursery ground for juvenile fish and crustaceans.

The marsh attracts a great variety of birds and it is a popular spot for watching birds. Birds to look out for are White-Breasted Cormorant, Reed Cormorant, Grey Heron, African Sacred Ibis, Egyptian Goose, Red-knobbed Coot, Cape Gull and the Pied Kingfisher.

Fish such as mullet and spotted Grunter swim up Perdespruit as far as the low-water bridge, or further, to feed in the fertile mud.
