Business name: Cormorant Island
CATEGORY:: Activities
Type: Bird Watching
About (Owner’s description): Cormorant is one of the smaller islands on Sedgefield Lagoon. It is about 5 m x 5 m in size when the lagoon levels are normal. It is named after the cormorant for the reason that it is seldom that one is not present, perching and drying wings after a feeding session.

The Island is downstream of the Island Bridge. On the upstream side of the bridge is Perdespruit, a marsh area that attracts a great variety of birds associated with water and marshland. It is also a nursery ground for juvenile fish and crustaceans which in turn attract herons to the area.

This locale, prolific in food also attracts many fish. Spotted grunter can be seen feeding near Cormorant Island during tidal fluctuations and just 15 metres downstream where the spruit empties out in to the Sedgefield Lagoon is a great spot for catching leervis (garick) using lures, bait or fly-fishing tackle.
